Org Explorer: User Guide

Org Explorer adds an organisation table to your Jira Service Management project page. It gives you a single place to view, search, and sort all organisations and their custom field values — without opening each record individually.

Are you an administrator setting up the app? See the Administrator Guide.

The organisation table

When you open the Org Explorer project page you'll see a table listing all organisations in the project. Each row is one organisation; each column is a field — starting with the organisation name, followed by any custom fields your administrator has configured in Jira Service Management.

The table loads from a local cache, so it appears instantly on repeat visits. The header shows when the data was last synced.

On your first visit to a project, you may see a banner noting that some custom fields are still loading. You can dismiss this banner and it won't reappear for that project.

Search

Type in the search box to filter the table. The search matches across the organisation name and all visible columns simultaneously, so you can narrow results by any value without knowing which column it's in. Press Enter or click the search icon to run the search. If you type a single character, a small hint appears reminding you that search starts from two characters onward.

Sort

Click any column header to sort the table by that column. Click again to reverse the sort order. Sorting works across all field types — text columns sort alphabetically, date columns sort chronologically, and so on.

Configure columns

Click Columns to choose which fields appear in the table. Your column selection is saved to your account, so you can set up a view that suits your workflow without affecting other agents. The organisation name column is always shown.

Field type formatting

Org Explorer displays each custom field in a format suited to its type:

Sync status and refreshing data

The app header shows the sync status and the time data was last updated. Data is refreshed automatically in the background, with the frequency adapting to activity — projects with recent changes sync more often — so in most cases it stays current without any action on your part.

If you need the latest data immediately — for example, after a custom field value was just changed — click Refresh. The sync runs in the background and the table updates automatically once complete. If the data hasn't changed since the last sync, the Refresh button will have a short cooldown before it can be used again.

Click the info icon next to the sync status for more detail — including when the last sync ran, an estimate of when the next one will happen, whether Refresh is currently on cooldown, and how much of the day's manual-sync allowance remains.
